SAL has officially taken delivery of MV Patricia, the third vessel in its innovative Orca Class newbuilding programme.
The delivery marks another milestone for the series, which represents the most advanced generation of vessels ever built for SAL. Designed for heavy lift, project cargo, offshore and energy-related transportation, the Orca Class combines exceptional cargo handling capabilities with operational flexibility and modern efficiency standards.
Unlike her sister vessels MV Elise and MV Frida, which entered long-term charter arrangements immediately after delivery, MV Patricia will initially be operated commercially by SAL. Her maiden voyage will see her transport wind energy equipment for long-standing customer Vestas, loading in Phu My and Lvsi (Nantong) before discharging in Eemshaven and Raahe.
The vessel is named after Patricia Rüf, Member of the Board of Directors of Liebherr. The naming recognises the long-standing relationship between SAL and Liebherr, a trusted partner for decades as both a supplier and customer.
The Orca Class has quickly established itself as a benchmark for modern heavy lift shipping. Combining high lifting capacities, versatile cargo intake and future-oriented vessel design, the series reflects SAL's commitment to delivering reliable transport solutions for increasingly complex logistics projects worldwide.
An official naming ceremony for MV Patricia is currently planned for August in Rostock, where customers, partners and industry stakeholders will gather to celebrate the vessel's addition to the fleet.
With three Orca Class vessels now delivered, SAL continues to strengthen its fleet with innovative assets designed to support the growing demands of the global project cargo, offshore and renewable energy markets.
