MV Svenja DP2 Conversion
Expanding offshore capabilities through intelligent engineering.
Transforming a proven heavy lift vessel into a next-generation offshore asset.
MV Svenja is currently undergoing an extensive DP2 offshore conversion that will significantly expand her capabilities for offshore construction, renewable energy and complex heavy lift projects.
Building on SAL’s proven Type 183 platform and decades of heavy lift experience, the conversion combines advanced dynamic positioning, enhanced lifting capabilities and future-ready sustainability features with the vessel’s renowned transport flexibility.
The result is a highly versatile offshore asset capable of supporting transportation, installation and construction activities across global offshore markets.
Why the DP2 conversion?
Rather than building an entirely new vessel, SAL is investing in the evolution of a proven platform.
The DP2 upgrade transforms MV Svenja into a highly capable offshore construction vessel that combines precise station keeping, enhanced lifting performance and transport flexibility in one asset.
Designed to meet the growing demands of offshore wind, subsea infrastructure and complex marine construction projects, the conversion significantly expands the operational versatility of the Type 183 platform.
Sustainability built into the conversion
Sustainability has been integrated throughout the conversion concept. Green Methanol readiness, IMO Tier III compliance, battery integration and shore power connectivity contribute to reducing emissions while ensuring compliance with future environmental requirements.
Built for offshore projects
The upgraded MV Svenja is designed to support a broad range of offshore projects, combining transportation and installation capabilities within one versatile platform.
From offshore wind foundations and substations to subsea structures, floating assets and complex heavy lifts, the vessel is equipped to support demanding offshore projects where lifting capability, operational flexibility and precise positioning are essential.
MV Svenja – Engineered for offshore operations
Combining the proven strengths of the Type 183 platform with advanced DP2 technology and enhanced offshore capabilities, MV Svenja is being transformed for complex transport and installation projects.

DP2 system
Advanced dynamic positioning enables precise station keeping, supporting safe and efficient operations in demanding offshore environments.
Versatile cargo capacity
With more than 3,400 m² of free deck space and a 107-metre-long cargo hold, MV Svenja offers substantial capacity for oversized and complex project cargo.
Key capabilities
The DP2 conversion equips MV Svenja with a comprehensive range of new capabilities, combining advanced offshore functionality with the proven strengths of the Type 183 platform.
Explore the key features that will enable safer, more efficient and more sustainable offshore operations.
Dynamic Positioning (DP2)
A highly flexible DP2 system enables precise and reliable station keeping under varying environmental conditions, providing the positioning capabilities required for demanding offshore operations.
Increased lifting performance
An extended crane pedestal increases hook height while maintaining a maximum offshore Safe Working Load (SWL) of up to 870 tonnes, expanding the vessel’s capabilities for complex offshore lifts.
Safer lifting operations
Integrated crane tugger arms provide improved load control during lifting operations, supporting safer and more controlled handling of offshore structures.
Transport and installation
MV Svenja retains the transport strengths of the Type 183 platform, including a large unobstructed cargo hold and sailing speeds of up to 19.5 knots. Combined with her enhanced offshore capabilities, this enables efficient transport and installation within one versatile vessel concept.
Offshore accommodation
Accommodation for up to 99 persons on board (POB), including an increased number of single-bed cabins, provides additional capacity and comfort for project and offshore personnel.
Future-ready propulsion & emissions
Green Methanol readiness and IMO Tier III compliance prepare MV Svenja for evolving fuel and emissions requirements, while battery integration and shore power connectivity support reduced-emission operations and zero-emission harbour stays.
Efficient ballast system
An enhanced ballast system with increased heeling capacity supports faster and safer deployment and recovery of offshore structures during demanding lifting operations.
Independent positioning
Additional reference systems provide positioning capabilities independent of satellite and GPS signals, increasing redundancy and operational resilience during offshore operations.
